Telemedicine

Telemedicine, as defined by the American Telemedicine Association is the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications to improve a patient’s clinical health status. A telemedicine visit can be conducted through multiple channels, including two-way video conference, e-mail, telephone, and other forms of telecommunications. Services provided through telemedicine are generally no different than those provided on-site and, often no separate coding is required for billing of remote services. By eliminating the necessity for a physical visit to get medical advice or treatment, patients can access a healthcare professional without the wait time and excessive cost.

How It Works

Using a simple web/mobile app, a participating physician set-up a professional account containing his/her credentials, field of expertise and times/dates they are available. On the other side, patients who need medical care will enter their main complaint and request an appointment with an available specialist. When a request is received, the practitioner can accept the patient, reject the request or refer him/her to another available specialist who better suits his/her complaint. If a patient request is accepted, the system will automatically confirm the appointment and direct the patient to the closest Speetar paitent site (HealthDot), where the consultation can be conducted via high definition video conferencing. HealthDots are designated service sites equipped with advanced telemedicine diagnostic devices and supplied with broadband internet connection. These sites will have a clinical assistant present to perform essential physical exams and resolve technical issues. Before seeing a patient, consulting physicians can access a cloud-based electronic health record system, containing the patient's medical history presented in a standardized format, including pre-uploaded up-to-date medical reports, labs results, and radiology images. If needed, additional relevant tests/images can be pre-ordered.
